Pflugerville ISD Parents FOR QUALITY EDUCATION
Pflugerville ISD claims we have to close schools because of a budget deficit, so why is the district being told they should close lower-costing/higher-performing schools while keeping higher-costing/failing schools open?
A consulting firm from Louisiana is recommending that the district close up to four elementary schools, including Windermere Elementary School. For those unfamiliar with Windermere, it: (1) is a B rated school, (2) has successful scores on the STAAR exam, (3) is the 4th largest elementary school in district, (4) is projected to increase its enrollment over the next five years, and (5) costs less to operate than many schools left off the proposed closure list.
Meanwhile, the consulting firm's recommendations did NOT include schools that: (1) received an F from the state, (2) currently have low enrollment, (3) are projected to lose up to 20% of its enrollment over the next five years, and (4) have much higher operating costs?

If schools need to be closed, the focus should be to save money, maintain district standards, and impact as few students as possible. This proposal ignores all three of those as well as ignoring the criteria they set up in December.
The board will make a decision on these closures on May 14, 2026. We have until then to convince them that keeping successful schools open is better for the district and will save more money too.
TEA School Ratings
Below are the TEA accountability ratings for the four elementary schools Pflugerville ISD has proposed closing. Note that Windermere ES — the strongest performer of the group — is included in the closure list.
TEA School Ratings
These are the TEA accountability ratings for failing schools which were not included in the closure recommendations. In addition to poor ratings from the state, all three score lower than Windermere on other key metrics such as lower enrollment, lower future enrollment projections, higher operating costs, etc.
